Frequently Asked Questions
Introducing VirusLock (TM)
    revolutionizing data security
Isn't my RAID (or drive mirroring) solution good enough backup
insurance?  Probably not on its own, since, if working properly, data that's corrupted on your main drive will be corrupted on the backup drive as well.

Are backups automatic with the VirusLock?  No, the user determines the frequency of backup required, then executes the backup operation manually.  This is why the VLS data protection is so powerful; only the user can power up the backup drive.

Is there software involved?  Will I need to upgrade?  The VirusLock Selector is a hardware device, like your CD-ROM drive, which also installs into a drive bay.  There is no software required to use it; there are no upgrades required.

How long should I expect my VirusLock Selector to last?  This high quality device is rated at 15,000 electrical contacts at full load current, with up to 300,000 mechanical detent operations.  If you back up data once daily, that's over 40 years.

Are there other models available?  New products are currently under development.

Can I switch drives with my computer on? Generally, current operating systems do not allow such 'hot swapping' of drives.  In the future this may be possible, but for now execute a "restart" and switch the VirusLock Selector when the BIOS screen appears.

How is privacy on a network and/or preventing network access possible with Viruslock?  By disabling the network adapter in the Windows Control Panel on the "backup" drive, this drive cannot be accessed, from that point forward, by the network.  All communications with the computer are executed through the "main" drive, keeping all data on the "backup" drive safe and confidential.

Isn't my computer protected against viruses if I'm running the latest Anti-Virus definition files and software?  No, because a virus has to have already been discovered and "cured" and the solution published by your particular anti virus provider for you to be able to receive it, download it, run it, and finally be protected.  Before that happens, you're vulnerable.  In other words, you're vulnerable to the next virus that comes along, until after it's well known.

What if my hard drive crashes or becomes unusable?  How can the VirusLock be used in disaster recovery? Simply boot on the protected, "backup" drive and mirror all partitions, including operating system, software, and data back to your main drive and continue.  Downtime is reduced to just minutes.

What's required on my computer to install VirusLock?  Any PC (not Mac, yet) computer with BIOS and motherboard of Pentium vintage forward should work; money back guarantee if it doesn't.  You'll need to install a second, bootable hard drive, and a second ribbon cable for the CD/ATAPI device(s).  One open, standard-size 5.25" drive bay (in the face of the computer, like the CD-ROM drive) is required to accommodate the VirusLock Selector.  Kit includes VirusLock Selector, mounting screws, and wire ties.
